While land acknowledgements are an important part of decolonizing education, this workshop challenges participants to consider ways that an action-oriented and personalized land acknowledgements can be used in classrooms to deepen reconciliatory efforts. This workshop will explore the value of and reasons for giving land acknowledgements in a classroom setting. Spending time together on the land, we will engage with Indigenous land-based pedagogies and consider how the land can enrich teaching and learning experiences, and inform your land acknowledgements. Essential contextual information about the Manitoba Act and Treaty 1 will be discussed. The workshop will end with an activity that supports participants as they craft a personal land acknowledgement.
