A Winter Storm Benefit Concert is being held November 7, 2019 at The Pyramid Cabaret on 174 Fort Street in Winnipeg, MB. Many artists and volunteers have stepped up to donate their talent to assist in raising funds to replenish the Community Emergency Fund at community levels across Southern Manitoba after this devastating State of Emergency.
The Community Emergency Fund is intended to enhance the resiliency of local governments, First Nations, and communities in responding to emergencies. These funds have been depleted, and if not replaced local communities will be at greater risk and not be able to handle another emergency at local levels.
On the evening of October 10, 2019, a storm causing extensive damage to many homes throughout Manitoba. Many First Nation communities had to be evacuated due to loss of hydro, water, and heat. First Nations’ leadership and first responders responded quickly to keep everyone safe by evacuating over 5,700 people to neighbouring urban centres.
We are requesting a prize donation towards the silent auction or a cash donation to help raise funds for the replenishment of emergency funds at the community level. We will also coordinate ticket purchases to go back to the community as a form of support.
The Southern Chiefs’ Organization has agreed to collect and disburse donations to communities on behalf of the Winter Storm Benefit Concert at their office at: 1572 Dublin Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R4H 0B7.
