Mursal Ghiyasi (she/her) is a third-year undergraduate student working towards a B.A. Honours degree. She is majoring in Political Science and minoring in Sociology. Her research interests include anything in and around the world of law, state-to-state relations, human security, and human rights. Recently, Mursal completed a University of Manitoba URA wherein she investigated the U.S.’s unlawful use of force in the capture of Venezuela’s President Nicolás Maduro in January of 2026. Her research focused on the crisis it presents for international law and great-power competition between the U.S., Russia, and China. Her research interests are fueled by a deep desire to learn, understand, and write about how the laws, decisions, and choices that states make—historically and presently—impact both people’s daily lives and the international order.
