Angela Ciceron (she/her) is a first-generation Filipino immigrant scholar and community organizer working and living on Treaty 1 land. She recently completed her Master’s degree in Economics at the University of Manitoba with a concentration in Economics and Society. Angela completed her BA in Global Political Economy in 2023, through which she developed her research interests in political economy, gender, and migrant work, with a focus on the Philippines and the Filipino diaspora in Canada. Her Master’s thesis explored how unions can improve the precarious working conditions faced by immigrant women in the Canadian garment industry through a community-based research project with Workers United Canada Council and the Canada Goose Union. Currently, Angela works as a knowledge mobilization coordinator with the Centre for Human Rights Research, and is involved with a research project with Migrante Manitoba which aims to investigate the working and living conditions of temporary and undocumented migrant workers in Manitoba. Angela spends her spare time as a community organizer for migrant rights and issues facing the Filipino community in Winnipeg and beyond through organizations such as Anakbayan Manitoba and PAGSAMA.
