Julius Odei is a PhD student in Geography at the University of Manitoba and a researcher with the Environmental Change and Governance Lab. His research lies at the intersection of human rights, environmental justice, and environmental governance, with a particular focus on how climate change, ecosystem change, land and water governance, just energy transitions and resource extraction shape equity, livelihoods, and wellbeing in communities across both the Global South and Global North. Julius approaches environmental decision-making as a human rights issue, especially in relation to access to land, water, food security, and healthy environments. Using a combination of policy analysis and qualitative and quantitative research methods, his work examines how governance systems can either reproduce structural inequalities or contribute to more just, inclusive, and sustainable outcomes. His recent University of Manitoba–based research includes an in-depth assessment of water and nutrient governance in Manitoba, contributing to ongoing conversations about water governance.
