Mikayla (she/they) is a queer/non-binary settler living on Treaty One territory in Winnipeg. They grew up outside of Anola, a small rural community in Manitoba. She brings her experiences as a queer person living in a community with no 2SLGBTQIA+ resources to her research.

After moving to Winnipeg, Mikayla received a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Winnipeg where she double majored in Rhetoric, Writing, & Communications and Psychology.  They then went on to obtain a Master of Science from the University of Manitoba (Department of Community Health Sciences), where she began her 2SLGBTQIA+ research. Mikayla is currently a PhD student at the University of Manitoba in the College of Community and Global Health where they focus on 2SLGBTQIA+ health.
