Kayla Lariviere was born and raised on Treaty 1 territory and is of mixed Métis and Filipino ancestry. She is a proud University of Manitoba alumna, who graduated in 2020 with a Bachelor of Arts in Indigenous Studies and Criminology. Kayla was active within the Indigenous community on campus and was a recipient of an Indigenous Award of Excellence in the Trailblazer category. During her time as a student, she worked at the CHRR as an Indigenous Intern, where she assisted on projects such as At the Forks, and organized events. After she graduated, Kayla worked for the Government of Manitoba’s Natural Resources and Northern Development Department, in the Consultation and Reconciliation Unit. She returned to the University of Manitoba in 2023 and is now the Engagement Lead for Indigenous Engagement and Communications, where she continues to collaborate with the CHRR for campus events such as Red Dress Day.
