Sarah Deckert (she/her) is a settler who was born in California but has spent most of her life in Treaty 1 territory. Formerly a teacher at Argyle Alternative High School, Sarah is passionate about interdisciplinary education and how it can engage and inspire students. Sarah has a Bachelor of Arts with a major in English and a Bachelor of Education from the University of Winnipeg, and a Master of Arts from Canadian Mennonite University, where her research explored the Christian church’s complicity in settler colonialism and the myth of the “good missionary.” She has worked as curriculum developer for the Safe Spaces cultural competency training pilot program and as Research and Special Projects Coordinator for the Manitoba Collaborative Indigenous Education Blueprint, housed at the University of Manitoba.
