Just Waters is funding up to $15,000 for projects that promote water justice, including but not limited to projects that address access to clean water and sanitation, impacts of hydro, water governance, fish health, wetland/lake/river health, flooding, and more. These projects will be led by Indigenous communities, Indigenous-led organizations or Indigenous governments, with support from our team if desired.
We are honoured to support Lake Winnipeg Indigenous Collective in holding community discussions about what makes a healthy shoreline for Indigenous communities around Lake Winnipeg. According to LWIC, impacts like loss of access, pollution, water quality, erosion and loss of animals have made it all but impossible for community members to imagine what a healthy shoreline looks like. LWIC will work with Indigenous communities around Lake Winnipeg to develop a clear picture of a healthy shoreline, and to look at restoration options.
