Yiseul Kang

she/her

Yiseul Kang (she/her) is an international master’s student from South Korea. After moving to Turtle Island, she has been learning about the ongoing histories of violence faced by Indigenous peoples. This has influenced her studies, and she now researches the experiences of marginalized communities in Turtle Island. She is currently a Master’s student in Geography at the University of Manitoba, supervised by Dr. Nicole Wilson and Dr. Warren Bernauer. Her research focuses on water governance in Nunavut, particularly the role of Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit in decision-making. She acknowledges her position as an outsider on Turtle Island and approaches her work with respect and ethical commitment. In addition to her academic work, Yiseul is a member of the communication team at the Environmental Conservation Lab at the University of Manitoba. She advocates for environmental justice by raising awareness of environmental issues and promoting sustainable, equitable solutions through communication strategies.
